Cupcakes for hope this weekend at Westgate

''This really is the sweetest way to help save a life"

This Saturday, 28 September, Westgate Mall will host the eighth annual National Cupcakes 4 Kids charity drive. Westgate will be one of 88 venues nationwide that will participate in the event, which is organised by Cupcakes For Hope, a non-profit company(NPC) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) that aims to raise awarness and funds for children with life- threatening diseases.

Cupcakes For Hope was founded by Sandy Cipriano, owner of Rio Sol Portuguese Restaurant in Vereeniging. In the first year of the charity drive, Cupcakes For Hope raised R5 000 and was able to help one young boy. To date they have managed to assist over 1 500 young patients. All money raised goes toward paying for medical expenses, nutritional food and transport to and from hospital. And all of this is achieved through the loving act of baking cupcakes.

Cupcakes For Hope has even posted two world records along the way. In 2017, they set the record for the world’s tallest cupcake tower. The cupcake tower extended a remarkable 10,7 metres into the air, raising R300 000 in the process. Then, in 2018, a record for the tallest Mandela cake was set. A three-metre cake statue of former President Nelson Mandela was baked at Sandton City to celebrate Madiba’s 100th birthday.
