Lovers of classic automobiles and motorcycles came out in their numbers on Saturday, 21 September, to visit the motorcycle and classic motor show hosted by the Horison-Noord NG Kerk to celebrate their annual Spring festival. All the vehicles displayed belong to members of the Late Great Motor Association (LGMA).
Car enthusiasts from across the community brought their classic vehicles to share with like-minded fans. Restorations, customisations and well looked after originals were all on show. Money cannot buy nostalgia or history and these vehicles all have special memories and long journeys in abundance.

When speaking to the owners of these vehicles, one is able to truly appreciate the love and passion that goes into preserving these monuments of automobile history. One such car-lover was Boeta Graham. His Red Pontiac was on display, featuring the original licence plates and a board of photographs documenting the vehicle’s journey. First purchased by Boeta’s father, this car is a special part of the family.
One of the younger members of LGMA is Jurgen Steyn. His two customised Volkswagens were on display in all their glory. Jurgen has worked on his creations himself. His family were in the automobile restoration business and he hopes to continue the art of bringing older cars back to life for many years to come.

Motorcycles were also on display, with the notable mentions being those of Harley Davidson collector, Dawie Lotter, and Kawasaki owner, Johan van Biljon.
Other than the exquisite automobiles, those in attendance were treated to live music and food stalls. Many also took time out, away from the memories of the classics, to sit in the shade and catch up on the rugby which was being shown live on a big screen. Upon request, some youngsters were taken out in a classic for a joyride around the block. Hopefully these few moments in one of these unique machines could spark in these youths a grand appreciation for the golden age of motor vehicles.
