Learners and staff of The King’s School West Rand painted the school in different heritage attires as the school celebrated Heritage Day on Friday, 20 September.
One of the facilitators and student teacher Fernando Nhone, explained what the day entailed. “The event is mainly to celebrate different cultures. We’ve set up different stations and places where people can be able to express the cultures that they want to express or to learn from them,” he said.

He added that learners got to learn various indigenous activities such as gumboot, kwaito and soapy dances. “The learners enjoyed themselves, and I could tell from the interaction during the gumboot dancing lessons,” he reflected.
The school principal, Ken Langley added, “The day was really to celebrate our diversity and recognising that God has called us into a single family where we are united through his spirit and that we are one family. The Bible tells us we two are being built together to a house in which God dwells by his spirit. We’ve seen that the children are excited to celebrate their own cultures but also recognising that we are all one in Christ”.
