Today in history: A veld fire destroys more than 90 Nissan cars in Pretoria
The vehicles were apparently between seven and ten months old and were destined for the used car market.
On 18 September 2004, a runaway veld fire destroyed more than 90 Nissan vehicles and a bird sanctuary in Rosslyn, Pretoria.
According to the News 24 archives, the runaway veld fire destroyed 94 vehicles in a car park at Nissan’s Rosslyn plant in Pretoria.
Johan Pieterse, a spokesperson for the Tshwane Emergency Services said, “The blaze was caused by a veld fire, which went through a fence at the car park.”
The vehicles were apparently between seven and ten months old and were destined for the used car market.
The damage caused by the devastating fire was estimated at about R10 million
