Ward 126 hosts public meeting on xenophobia

Most people present at the meeting blamed South African companies for hiring foreign nationals and favouring them over South Africans.

On Sunday 8 September the ANC in Ward 126 held a successful public meeting/ campaign in Randpark Ridge with the theme of saying no to Afrophobia / Xenophobia.

The subject of discussion on the day was the recent xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals and the importance of immigrants being documented.

The Ward 126 leadership stressed the importance of community engagement on these issues and locals living in harmony with foreign nationals.

ANC Branch coordinator, Qhawe Zulu said, “In general we wanted to have a discussion with the community with regard to the recent attacks on foreign nationals and to encourage people to get their documentation in order”.

Most people present at the meeting blamed South African companies for hiring foreign nationals and favouring them over South Africans.

They also identified this issue as one of the key elements that sparked the current outbreak of violence in the country.

ANC Regional Secretary, Dada Morero said on Twitter, “It is important that as branches, we have these meetings in our wards, discuss these painful issues and find solutions that will not lead to any violence”.
