Harry Connick Jr. (born Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr.) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on 11 September, 1967.
His interest in music was encouraged at an early age; he started learning piano at the age of three, and by the time he was nine, he had performed with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. Harry attended the New Orleans Centre for Creative Arts to further develop his talent. While he was studying there, he won various piano competitions and often performed at French Quarter clubs.
Nearing the end of his teens, Harry moved to New York, where he studied firstly at Hunter College and later, at the Manhattan School of Music. At the age of 19, Harry released his first album with Columbia Records. In 1989, he wrote the score and sang several songs for Rob Reiner’s romantic drama, When Harry Met Sally; the soundtrack for which went multi-platinum. In Harry’s musical career, he has earned one gold, four platinum, and three multi-platinum albums so far, along with two Grammy Awards.
His music, however, is not the only thing he has received recognition for; as a talented composer, lyricist, and actor, Harry has received multiple Emmy Awards, as well as Tony nominations.
Harry is also well known for his roles in various movies and TV series, such as Dolphin Tale, Independence Day, Will and Grace, and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. He currently lives in Connecticut with his wife, Jill Goodacre, and his three daughters, Georgia Tatum, Sara Kate, and Charlotte.
