Mari Rabie, a South African Triathlete and Olympian, is celebrating her 33rd birthday today.
Born in Cape Town, Mari attended Stellenbosch University, where she earned a place in South Africa’s triathlon team. She competed at both the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
She was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 2010, and in 2011 she attended Oxford University, graduating with a Masters degree in Applied Statistics. Two years later, Mari earned her MBA in Actuarial Sciences.
Mari returned to the Olympics for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio De Janeiro, placing 11th in the triathlon. She retired from international sport in 2016, after that year’s ITU World Triathlon in Edmonton.
International stars celebrating their birthdays today include Colin Firth, the much loved British actor. He is best known for his romantic comedy roles in Love Actually and the Bridget Jones’ Diary franchise, and turns 59 today.
Also, Joe Perry, the legendary Aerosmith guitarist, turns 69 today. A member of Aerosmith since their inception in 1970, Joe and his band mates were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
