Charterhouse Preparatory School in Radiokop has appointed Mr Desmond Zeelie as its new principal.

The Northsider caught up with the newly elected principal and he did not hesitate to explain some of the key elements of his vision, which is to maintain relationships between teachers and parents.

“It’s a super exciting journey to be associated with the school. The children are great, and it feels as if I have been here for a long time. I plan to maintain the unique quality of education that is offered here,” Desmond said.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Johannesburg, and started his teaching career in 1992 as a teacher at Bedfordview Primary School.

He then moved to Pridwin Preparatory School as a teacher and later became deputy principal.

Currently he is the managing director of the non-profit organisation, Foundation of School Leadership and Management where he is involved in developing school leadership in under-performing, previously disadvantaged schools.

Desmond is married and has three children, two of which are in the teaching profession.

He is passionate about people development and education, and has contributed invaluably to state and independent school systems in both the classroom as educator and as headmaster.
