Dawid Johannes Malan is an English cricketer who was born on 3 September 1987 in Roehampton, London.

The left-handed batsman was raised just outside of Cape Town. In 2006, Malan went to the UK to coach at Oundle School in Northamptonshire and play cricket for Teddington in the Middlesex League.

He fully intended to return to South Africa at the end of that English season and was ready to represent the Boland cricket team in the Western Cape. His plans changed when he received a call from Clive Radley, Middlesex legend and former coach of MCC Young Cricketers. Radley called Malan at the last minute to ask him to step in for an injured player on the first day of a three-day match against the Leicestershire Seconds,

Less than two months later, Malan had signed for Middlesex and made his T20 debut on the same day in a match against Surrey.

In his International T20 debut in 2017, Malan demolished South Africa’s attack with 78 runs from 44 balls – the highest T20 innings by an England debutant. He was also named England’s best batsman in the 2017/ 18 Ashes series and scored his Maiden Test century during the third Test at the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) in Perth. His century was the first in the series from the England team.

A couple of other well-known people born on 3 September are Charlie Sheen (American actor) and Stefan Kendal Gordy (aka Redfoo, co-founder of electro-house band LMFAO).
