Happy swimming season!

Parents and caregivers are urged to ensure the safety of their little ones while using the community pools.

Sunday, 1 September, officially marked the beginning of what the City of Johannesburg calls ‘Swimming Season.’

Forty-seven of the 55 swimming pools were opened and ready to welcome patrons on Sunday, while the East Bank swimming pool was opened on Monday, 2 September.

Three more of the City’s swimming pools will be opening at a later stage, due to repairs that are currently underway. These pools are the Windsor West, Newclare and Florida Lake swimming pools.

The City of Joburg has provided a list of alternative swimming pools that residents can make use of during the repairs.

For residents who usually swim at Florida Lake, these pools will be open:

• Little Falls

• Davidsonville

• Roodepoort

• Florida North

Residents who usually swim at Windsor West and Newclare, can use the following pools:

• Ochse Square

• Robin Hills

• Riverlea

• Vrededorp

• Verity Park

• Windsor East

Unfortunately, four of the City’s swimming pools will not be opening during the 2019/ 2020 swimming season. The extreme vandalism that needs to be repaired, as well as necessary safety works that need to be implemented, has resulted in the closure of the Mayfair, Paterson Park, Rhodes Park and Robertsham pools until repairs have been completed.

Parents and caregivers are urged to ensure the safety of their little ones while using the community pools. Swimming lessons, such as Learn-To-Swim, are offered through different programmes at some of the community pools. More information on where the programmes are run is available from the Department of Sport and Recreation.

Rules are displayed at each community pool, and swimmers are requested to adhere to these rules to ensure their continued enjoyment and safety.

The City has made sure each pool has sufficient chemicals to guarantee that they stay in pristine condition throughout the swimming season.
