KSWR chess-player making moves

In Grade 3 (2018) he was part of the school’s chess team which represented the D12 at the Gauteng Team Chess Championship in Pretoria.

Khodani Nwedo, a King’s School West Rand learner, has paved his way to the 2020 South African Junior Chess Championship (SAJCC) following an incredible stint in the sport this year.

The passionate youngster showed signs of being a great chess-player at the tender age of seven. He eventually tested his ability in the sport in Grade 2 under the supervision of his coach and teacher.

In Grade 3 (2018), he was part of the school’s chess team which represented the D12 at the Gauteng Team Chess Championship in Pretoria.

Since then Khodani has never looked back, as he has represented the D12 on other occasions, including the Gauteng Provincial Chess Championships, where he took first place in the Individual Competition and won a trophy.

This year, the Grade 4 learner participated in the JNW Chess Individual Tournament at Maragon Ruimsig, where he came first and won a gold medal and prize money.

He moved on to participate at the Johannesburg Metro Chess Tournament on 27 and 28 July, where he qualified and also was selected to be part of the Metro Chess team for the 2020 SAJCC to be held from 3 to 12 January next year at the OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg.

Khodani believes that he can do all things through Christ, who gives him strength.

“We give God the glory for Khodani’s achievements and wish him well at the SAJCC,” Michelle Dos Ramos, the school’s marketing coordinator said as she wished the youngster well.
