#WeRead: Local school encourages learners to read

The teachers at the school also borrow books for their learners so that when they have finished with school work they can pick a book and start reading.

With book week coming up next month, the reading of books is highly encouraged, especially at the schools in our community.

The Northsider visited the media centre at Laerskool Helderkruin just to get an idea of the level of reading that the learners engage in.

This one-of-a-kind, fully functional media centre is always open for the learners to come in and read or borrow a book at break time.

Media teacher, Marietjie Kotze, said, “ It is very important to read. Even with the new technology, you cannot go online if you can’t read. Everything in life revolves around the reading of books.”

The teachers at the school also borrow books for their learners so that when they have finished with school work they can pick a book and start reading.

The media centre has a range of books, from fiction to non-fiction, suitable for learners of all ages, and the school constantly orders books for the centre.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
