KJK judokas return smiling after SA Championships

They brought home a total of 53 medals

 

Numerous judokas from the KJK Judo Club participated in this year’s South African Judo Championships at the Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark.

They took part in various categories and collected many medals between them.

The results were as follows:

• Individual Kumite (fighting):

– Harm Venter (gold medal and silver medal in the Seniors division)

– Shawwal Bagaria (gold medal)

– Dewald Schultz (two gold medals, for Cadets and Juniors divisions)

– Keagan Diab (gold medal)

– Tyla Stacey-Hale (gold medal)

– Rynard Hall (gold medal)

– Hendrik Alberts (silver medal)

– Shalyn van den Heever (bronze medal)

– Reece-Hunter Erasmus (bronze medal)

– Rikus Hall (bronze medal)

– Stephanie van der Riet (bronze medal)

– Christiaan Theron (bronze medal)

– Oabile Molefe (bronze medal)

– Team Event: Silver medal in the Boys Group and a bronze medal in the Girls Group

• Novice Tournament (All Novice participants received a participation medal)

Tyla Stacey-Hale, Rynard Hall, Keagan Diab, Dewald Schultz, Shawwal Bagaria and Harm Venter were also announced as National Champions.

Dewald also attended a training group in Porec, Croatia, where a group of youngsters did a stint in Split with coach Vojo Vujevic, (bronze medallist for Yugoslavia and multiple Yugoslavian champion). He also took part in the Adriatic Cup Tournament and won a bronze medal in the cadet boys category and senior category.

Keagan, Dewald and Shawwal will also be attending the Commonwealth Judo Championships that will be held in Birmingham, England, during September.

“I am very proud of every judoka that participated, as it takes a lot of courage to compete in this tough sport,” said Katja Bruwer, head coach.
