Roodepoort’s own junior Valentino Rossi

At the age of four, he developed a love for the sport and started training at the age of five.

The six-year-old Matteo Armoed, also referred to as ‘Rossi junior’, is one of the youngest South African motorcyclists on the circuit, where he emulates his role model, Valentino Rossi.

At the tender age of four, Matteo developed a love for this sport and, at the age of five, his parents decided to sign him up for the Titan Bikes team. This is where his training for the Short Circuit Race began. He took part in his first race on 3 November last year, and shortly after, he started racing full-time on the Short Circuit with a pocket bike.

He has also been selected to attend the Motor-Kids Junior Rider Development programme, where he will start training and racing in the MX and Off-Road Class. His first Off-Road competition was on 2 June, where Matteo received third place and an eighth place overall.

In July, Matteo took part in the event at Dirt Bronco in Krugersdorp and achieved third place in the Enduro class and first place in the Motocross.

Matteo’s next Circuit race is on 24 August at Zwartkops Racetrack.

His proud parents believe that he has a bright future ahead of him, and would like to find some sponsors to help him.
