Captain Kay Makhubela, the Provincial Police spokesperson, said Tuesday’s arrests had brought the total number of arrests to 30 since the operation commenced a week ago.
“The integrated deployment of law enforcement officers during the operations has resulted in the seizure of equipment believed to be used during the commission of illicit mining, while shacks and other illegal structures have been demolished, and illegal electricity connections and water pipes disconnected,” said Makhubela.

The arrested suspects will appear in Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
He went on to explain that these operations target all forms of organised criminal activities and syndicates because crime remains a top priority for Gauteng’s Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.

Members of the public have been cautioned to guard against using their economic status to commit crime because the police will not hesitate to arrest any person involved in unlawful activities.
