WARNING: Zandspruit total shutdown looms
A date for the protest has not been provided as yet; however, motorists using the roads surrounding Zandspruit are urged to always be vigilant.
In the interests of bringing back the rule of law and improving services in Zandspruit, Ward 114 councillor, Victor Mafinya, has given the Northsider a peek at the looming ‘total shutdown’ protest.
Mafinya indicated that the shutdown will happen under the theme ‘Massive development vs arrogance’, which is directed at the Gauteng Department of Human Settlement and the City of Johannesburg.

“We plan to reclaim the streets of Zandspruit from criminals of all kinds; repossess people’s land; stop land invasion; arrest those who illegally sell or sold land; deport all illegal immigrants and restore the people’s confidence in the government,” said Mafinya as he explained the mandate of the shutdown.
He added that the shutdown is meant to heal the wounds of 25 years of democracy by bringing proper development and condemning queue jumpers and corruption. It is also meant to promote transparency, honesty and fearless comrades within the informal settlement.
A date for the protest has not been provided as yet; however, motorists using the roads surrounding Zandspruit are urged to always be vigilant.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) ward commander, Superintendent Wandile Mrubata, confirmed knowledge of this shutdown without a date. “We were not given a date for this shutdown, so we could wake up any day to protest action; however, we have officers patrolling the area every day until further notice,” he said.
