Early morning shootout between DMS Security and suspects in Helderkruin

Two suspects were arrested, another two were injured and fled the scene on foot, after disarming a security officer.

On 14 August at 3.45am, a shootout involving four suspects and officers from DMS Security took place at the intersection of Ouklip and Wilgerood Roads.

DMS patrollers were doing their morning patrol in the area when they spotted a suspicious-looking grey Toyota Quantum taxi driving around. The vehicle was spotted again about five minutes later, coming from CR Swart Road, towing a red jet-ski.

When the patrollers approached the taxi, shots were fired. Subsequently, the patrollers discovered that the suspects had stolen a jet-ski and its trailer stand and removed the back seats of the taxi.

Two suspects, one of them the driver of the taxi, were arrested, another two were injured and fled on foot with their firearms, after disarming the DMS patroller.

The DMS officer is a bit shaken up, but was fortunately not injured. Members of the Roodekrans Neighborhood Watch, the Roodepoort Police and the JMPD also arrived on the scene.

DMS is now looking for the owner of the jet-ski, which is suspected to have been stolen from the Poortview or Ruimsig area. Anyone with information is requested to call Wayne on 082 570 2188.

All the passenger seats of the taxi had been removed.
