DANCECORP achieves excellence at World Championships
“The results are nothing short of amazing and we are incredibly proud."
DANCECORP expressed their pride when three of their dancers achieved tremendous results at the World Freestyle Dance Championships held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, UK.
Logan de Villiers and Cayce Steenkamp qualified to represent South Africa in this prestigious competition after meeting the criteria as outlined by the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA).
Anchin Fairlie, another talented dancer, volunteered to compete alongside Cayce and Logan as part of the South African team. The three young women competed in the Slowdance and Freestyle (solo) categories for their age-groups over two days.
Logan faced extremely tough competition in the Adult Slowdance category of the competition, but came back fighting the following day, to achieve a quarterfinal result in the Adult Freestyle section.
Anchin exceeded the expectations of the trainers when she made it to the finals of both the U/18 Intermediate Slowdance category and the U/18 Freestyle Championship category. She placed an overall fifth for Slowdance and sixth for Freestyle.
Cayce was described as outstanding when she made the quarterfinals in the U/16 World Championship Slowdance section and the finals in the U/16 World Championship Freestyle Solo category, taking home an impressive fourth place overall.
Kyle John Behrens – principal of the dance studio and one of the six South African adjudicators on the World Freestyle Dance Championship Panel – and the vice principal, Shannon Michelle, praised the achievements of their students. “The results are nothing short of amazing and we are incredibly proud, especially considering this was the first time both Cayce and Anchin participated, and only the second time Logan has represented South Africa at the World Freestyle Dance Championships.”
The competition was undoubtedly tough, with competitors and trainers describing the level of excellence as nothing other than World Class. Logan and Cayce had to endure numerous rounds of dancing, with some sections exceeding six heats.
DANCECORP and their representatives thanked their numerous supporters for their contributions which allowed the small yet formidable team to participate in this huge endeavour.
