Samantha Fruin, a mother of three, is now walking around with an abscess on her tooth because she and her family were robbed of their belongings and money in Witpoortjie on Friday, 2 August.
According to Samantha, they went shopping at the Pick n Pay (PnP) on that day because her partner had been paid.
“We decided to go shopping on that day because my daughter’s partner had been paid. He went to cash his cheque because we had to go to a baby shower, buy groceries and pay rent. He went to work on his car while my daughter and I as well as the children went into PnP,” said Michelle Fruin, Samantha’s mother.

She added that within less than 15 minutes of being in the store, she felt that her bag had been opened.
“When I looked, I noticed that the front pocket of my bag was open and everything was gone – my daughter’s phone, her partner’s phone and identity document, as well as the wallet containing his whole salary – everything was gone,” explained Michelle.
According to her daughter, Samantha, who is the mother of three, she said after they noticed that their valuables were missing, she ran out, thinking she might see something.
“After not seeing anything, one of the workers from PnP went in to check the CCTV footage and came back to update us. He said when we went into the Pep store, a woman followed us in and took the stuff out of the bag and walked straight out again,” said Samantha.
Michelle further explained that there were police officials on lunch nearby at the time. They advised her to go to the police station to open a case, but her daughter’s partner advised otherwise.
“They said we should open a case, but when my son-in-law asked what our chances of getting anything back were, the official responded and said there was pretty much no chance,” she concluded.
The family said the CCTV footage shows the exact steps of the suspect, from where she started following them till after she walked out.
