Runners invited to enter Clearwater 10km and 5km Fun Race
Registrations and number collection will be done on Friday, 16 August at Clearwater Mall, in the food court area, from noon to 7pm, and again from 5.30am on the morning of the race.
The Clearwater 10km and 5km Fun Race organisers are inviting runners from all areas to take part in the upcoming edition of their annual race on Saturday, 17 August.
The race starts at Clearwater Mall and runs through the suburb of Little Falls and finishes at the staff parking at the front of Clearwater Mall, just off Hendrik Potgieter Road.
The race organiser and athlete in her own right, Sharon Hempel, provided the nitty-gritty details regarding the registration for this exciting race.
“Registrations and number collection will be done on Friday, 16 August at Clearwater Mall in the food court area from noon to 7pm, and from 5.30am on the morning of the race,” she explained.
She stated that the 10km race will start at 7am, with the 5km fun run starting shortly afterwards, at 7.15am. The prize-giving will be held at 8.30am and the race cut off is 9am.
She invited schools to participate in the 5km race.
Sharon touched on the partial road closures on race day. “Please note that parts of Hendrik Potgieter and Fredenharry Roads will be closed. Together, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, BCI Security and Panorama marshals will make sure that traffic flows smoothly, she said.
“I ask the motorists to please be careful while there are runners on the road. The race cut off is 9am and all roads will be cleared by then,” she urged.
She also mentioned that she’s looking forward to a large entry this year. “I look forward to seeing many athletes and running clubs on the morning of the race. A great day will be had, with a warm down session after the race at the Go Health stand at the main entrance of the mall.”
Sharon also summarised what runners can look forward to after the race. “We have Huwaei on board this year. They will also be sponsoring prizes to go with our prizes to the top athletes in each category. There is also the King and Queen of the Mountain (first male and first female) prize money. Clearwater Mall will also have its annual Health and Fitness Expo, where you can enjoy the day after the race with the exhibitors,” she concluded.
