Some bad and good news for motorists
This increase follows a fuel price decrease last month (July) of between 95 and 96 cents.
Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pockets when visiting the petrol pumps as the fuel price is set to increase on Wednesday, 7 August.
According to the announcement made by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, 93 and 95 octane will rise by 11 cents a litre.
However, there is some good news for motorists. The price of diesel will decrease by 14 cents a litre and paraffin will go down by 2 cents per litre.
The department cited local and international factors as among the reasons for the fuel price adjustments.
“The main reasons for the increase in the prices were the rising tensions in the Middle East after Iran had captured a British oil tanker. It sparked worries about supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil is transported,” said the department.
