AfriForum Roodepoort takes an active role in safeguarding the community
Various problem areas in the community were patrolled and no serious incidents were reported
Roodepoort’s AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch participated in various safety activities during the month of July.
On 19 July, they assisted the police and the ICE Community Policing group in an area demarcation operation in the areas of Florida, Hamberg, and Maraisburg.
Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for the West Rand, shared his sentiments about the operation. “The branch and neighbourhood watch are proud to be working with the police and the various policing forums to safeguard the community. The best weapon to combat crime is solidarity and support among the different safety entities.”
On 26 July, Afriforum’s monthly mass crime prevention patrol took place, with the cooperation of various security, policing and emergency services. A total of 113 members took part in this particular patrol.
Various problem areas in the community were patrolled and no serious incidents were reported. Ungerer added that the only way crime prevention patrols such as these can be a success, is if the entire community does its part.
“It is a privilege to be able to say that this is indeed the case in Roodepoort,” he concluded.
Even though the turnout was pleasing, the organisation is confident that the patrols in the coming months will bring even more participants.
AfriForum urges the community to join the Roodepoort branch. To join, SMS ‘Roodepoort’ to 45341. SMSes are charged at R1.
