Learners receive shoes from Afrisam, in the spirit of Mandela Day

“It was a fulfilling day as the Roodepoort team assisted the kids with trying on their school shoes.”

Employees from Afrisam, Roodepoort, lent a helping hand to Durban Deep Primary School on Monday, 29 July.

They donated 70 pairs of school shoes, socks, shoe polish and brushes, which were purchased for the learners.

Afrisam felt the need to show support to the school, which was identified as a school in need of assistance.

A media statement released by the company stated that their team interacted with the learners, shared moments of fun and provided inspiration for these leaders of tomorrow.

“A joyous ‘Happy Birthday’ to Tata Madiba song was played out by the kids and AfriSam staff. In addition, 20 food parcels were also handed out. The school has a learner feeding scheme that provides meals as a ‘Rise against Hunger’ initiative,” read the statement.

The team also echoed the sentiments of Nelson Mandela when he said, “Our children are our greatest treasure. They are our future”.

Claudene Moorgas, General Manager of AfriSam’s central cementitious plants, concluded by saying, “Our children have the ability to re-shape the landscape of this country into one of hope, being able to celebrate differences and overcome adversity in unity. So in honour of our children and Tata Madiba, AfriSam’s cement plants gave back to the community on Mandela Day by spending some time at nearby schools in dire need of assistance”.
