CEF lends a hand to the EARTH Centre

“CEF is a state-owned entity and as part of our social corporate responsibility, we saw it fit to drive the EARTH Centre's programme forward,” he said.

The monthly operating costs of the EARTH Centre received a boost when the Central Energy Fund (CEF) donated a whopping R10 000 to the organisation.

The cheque was handed over by the CEF representatives at the Ruimsig centre on Friday, 26 July.

“CEF is a state-owned entity and as part of our social corporate responsibility, we saw it fit to drive the EARTH Centre’s programme forward after we received a request for support from them,” the spokesperson for CEF, Jacky Mashapu, explained. “As part of our mandate, education is one of the key pillars of our programme. We use it to support young people with educational programmes.”

Speaking of educational programmes, CEF seemed to be no stranger to giving back to disadvantaged institutions of learning.

“We’ve been delivering school shoes to the less fortunate throughout the country because we understand that the basic needs of the schools are very important and need to be met,” Mashapu said.

After their EARTH Centre visit, which was part of their Mandela Day programme, he said they were going to make another stop in Tembisa where they would be lending a helping to another challenged organisation.

The EARTH Centre marketing manager, Nicole Ras, appreciated the gesture. “This is a huge help. The R10 000 we received from CEF is going to contribute towards our monthly operating costs, which are currently about R170 000 per month,” she said.

The centre continues to encourage more organisations to help them keep their programmes running.
