CoJ officials spend their Mandela Day at Donovan MacDonald Retirement Village
"It is in Madiba's honour that we came out to do good unto others"
The residents of the Donovan MacDonald Retirement Village received a warm visit from various departments of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) including Speaker of Council, Vasco da Gama and Chief Whip, Dr Kevin Wax.
The visit was in honour of the legacy of Nelson Mandela, but the city officials didn’t only spend 67 minutes with them – they spent the whole day, planting a food garden, doing maintenance, and building a ramp for a resident who could not get out of her flat because she didn’t have a ramp for her wheelchair.

The Department of Health also did a door to door visit, as part of their wellness campaign.
“It is in Madiba’s honour that we came out to do good unto others, however, I believe that we must not wait for this day in order to practise good deeds. We should do good every day,” CoJ Chief Whip, Dr Kevin Wax, said.

“I am truly grateful to have the city officials visiting my ward and spending their Mandela Day with the residents and doing good for them,” said Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn.
