Florida Lake Canoe Club paddlers selected for Slovakia
Kamilah and Sisanda are an inspiration to young girls in the community, teaching them that all things are possible as long you put your mind to it and put in the effort
Two female paddlers from Florida Lake Canoe Club have been selected by Canoeing South Africa to participate in The Olympic Hopes event that will be taking place in Slovakia in September.
Kamilah Hank and Sisanda Mthabela were both selected based on their achievements and results in the Gauteng Canoe Union School League log, and the annual SA Inter-provincial Sprint Championships hosted recently.

Fourteen-year-old Kamilah resides in Discovery and is a learner at Curro Aurora. She participates in a number of sporting activities and is highly competitive in netball, action netball and softball.
She also recently participated at the Roodepoort Theatre in the stunningly enjoyable Tinkerbell show.
Both Kamilah and her sister Ameerah have been podium medal achievers in the canoeing school’s league races since they started learning to canoe some years ago.

Fourteen-year-old Sisanda is from Florida and attends Roodepoort Hoërskool, where her favourite subjects are engineering, graphic design and physical science.
This Grade 10 learner aspires to become an aeronautical engineer. She has been awarded best netball player of the year for three consecutive years at U/10, 11 and 12 levels.
While in primary school, she ran the 1 200m track event and came second in Gauteng in the U/11 category. She also made the first hockey team in 2016.
These girls have grown from strength to strength, getting podium positions in both the Schools League and at inter-provincial events.
Kamilah and Sisanda are an inspiration to young girls in the community, teaching them that all things are possible as long you put your mind to it and put in the effort.
The Gauteng Canoe Union School League has also offered the two girls an opportunity to earn their Gauteng Canoe Union junior colours when they compete in inter-provincial events and earn sufficient points in their age group.
Their international debut is an excellent opportunity for these up and coming paddlers to compete against others in their age groups, gaining valuable international race exposure.
The tour is 100 per cent self-funded, which means that the participants will be sourcing their own funds and sponsorship. Anyone willing to contribute to their costs, or to sponsor them, will be highly appreciated.
