Roodepoort Spin City temporarily closed

Thursdays used to be days when car lovers and fanatics from all over united to practise the sport of spinning.

The Roodepoort Spin City has been temporarily closed due to the closure of Nick Toomey Boulevard. Spin City, which is a platform for all car lovers and fanatics around the West Rand to unite and have fun, used to host events every Thursday.

Essop Dawood and Younis Hassen, the founders and owners of the Roodepoort Spin City, created this platform because they are all about captivating the minds of the youth, so they can look into joining the motor industry.

“Spin City is a safe and secure environment where we practise car spinning every Thursday. It’s been a tradition for nearly 30 years in South Africa and we decided to continue the tradition. Every Thursday we have our locals as well as out-of-town spinners of as young as 14 who come and join us,” said Essop.

Car spinning is said to be the fastest growing local motorsport in the country.

“Thursdays were days where we united and had fun, but everything has been stopped because the closure of the road has shut us down. The platform allowed people to make money because there were people who showcased their different skills, from people who change tyres to security guards. We also had food stalls available,” he said.
