Cage needed to trap a baboon
The cage will be donated to CLAW, according to Amelia, who said that the organisation has the required permits to capture and transport the animal once a cage has been made.
Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester, has called on all skilled handymen in the community to assist in making a trap cage for a baboon that is running loose in the area.
The cage will be donated to CLAW, according to Amelia, who said that the organisation has the required permits to capture and transport the animal once a cage has been made.
Amelia described the design of the cage. “The cage has to be 1,5 metres high and the length and width of a bakkie (it must fit on a bakkie for transport). The trap door must not fall all the way to the ground, to leave room in case the baboon’s tail is in the way,” she explained.

She added, “We’ve been trying to no avail to locate such a cage since Monday, 8 July, when we first received notice by residents who spotted the young adult male baboon in Constantia Kloof. We don’t want to see this visitor ending up like Houdini”.
Amelia also warned residents to be cautious of its visits to their properties. “He will be attracted to pets’ food left outside and water sources. Please feed your pets inside and don’t agitate the creature. It is merely looking for a new place to call home,” she urged.
