Help CANSA help the needy this Mandela Day
"We want to provide Care Packs to as many patients as possible on Mandela Day in keeping with Nelson Mandela’s spirit of kindness, selflessness and generosity."
As Mandela Day is around the corner, The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is calling on community members to help disadvantaged cancer patients by donating care packs.
Residents are urged to donate items that are required for the CANSA Care Packs, and include basic toiletries, snacks and warm items of clothing. A message of hope and encouragement is also included in each pack. All donations can be dropped off at your local CANSA care centre.
In a statement released by CANSA, they aim to collect 6 700 Care Packs that will be distributed to cancer patients in need at public hospitals and CANSA Care Homes.
“We aim is to bring relief and inspire hope when we deliver our CANSA Care Packs to newly diagnosed cancer patients or those undergoing treatment. Many disadvantaged patients not only face the shock of a cancer diagnosis, they are also not even able to afford basic toiletries, warm items or snacks. Patients sometimes end up stranded at hospitals when their appointments run over time, or they have to stay overnight unexpectedly, or have to undergo more procedures than expected,” read the statement.
If you would like to spend your 67 minutes with CANSA on Thursday, 18 July, they will be visiting hospitals across the country, handing out our Care Packs. Your help would be appreciated.
“Those who are not able to spend time with CANSA on the day, or contribute towards the CANSA Care Packs, are welcome to make a general donation online, which will be used towards support programmes for patients,” read the statement.
Ester Pretorius from CANSA said, “We welcome and encourage the public to drop donations at our Roodepoort CANSA Care Clinic, which will be used in our CANSA Care Homes and CANSA TLC Lodges. Everything will have a purpose, so we thank you that you have chosen CANSA for your 67 minutes. We are situated at 165 Ontdekkers Road, Horizon View.”
“CANSA is a volunteer-driven organisation serving cancer patients, caregivers and loved ones in communities across South Africa. The organisation is always in need of new recruits. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up online, or contact your local CANSA Care Centre,” concluded the statement.
