Welties has a new food and craft market
“The initial vision for the market was to have it as a mid-week night market because we wanted to provide an alternative to the traditional dining at the malls,” she explained.
The newly established food and craft market called Time Out Market is set to host its third monthly market in Weltevreden Park on Saturday, 6 July.
The market was co-founded by Thulisile Muthle and her partner, Bontle Thobejane. It is staged every first Saturday of the month, from 10am to 4pm, at the Weltevreden Park Tennis Club, where it was officially launched in May.
Thulisile shed light on what sparked the idea to start the market:
“The initial vision for the market was to have it as a mid-week night market because we wanted to provide an alternative to the traditional dining at the malls,” she explained.

However, she said that the idea did not receive full support from the community, so they had to look into hosting the market during daylight.
“We wanted to give the community a hangout spot that they can go to when they want to go out to spend time with friends and family. However, we had to adjust to the demands of the community as well as the requests from the vendors who wanted to be part of the market, so we decided to have the market during day-time at the weekend,” she said.
She added that their vision of a night market still has not changed. “We want to build the Time Out Market brand and as we grow we will have the market as a day or night market,” an optimistic Thulisile concluded.
