Today, we celebrate the birth of Bafana Bafana legend, Doctor Khumalo.
Popularly known as 16 Valve, he was born on this day in 1967. He was named as one of South Africa’s best forwards in the mid 90s.
Khumalo become a star player for Kaizer Chiefs. The high-point of his soccer career was the 1990s –he was part of the Kaizer Chiefs team that won three South African league championship titles and five knockout trophies and was also voted South African Footballer of the Year in 1992.
He made a name for himself before he was loaned to Argentine sports club, Ferro Carril Oeste, in 1995.
After the readmission of South Africa to FIFA in 1992, Khumalo was selected to be a member of the South African squad for its first official international match against Cameroon.
Khumalo was voted 62nd in the Top 100 Great South Africans in 2004.
Since 2004, Khumalo has served as a television soccer commentator and presenter.
