A celebration of the courageous life of Shanaya the First
Song and prayer has always been part of Shanaya’s family and that was evident in the proceedings as song and dance were the order of the day.
On Saturday, 15 June, friends, family, medical professionals, oncology charities and followers came together to celebrate the life of their beloved Shanaya the First at Castle Kyalami.
The venue itself was symbolic of the love that Shanaya Govender had for Disney and all the princesses, and was definitely the most fitting venue to celebrate the life of a princess.
The venue was filled with friends, families and a handful of doctors who came to celebrate the life of Shanaya alongside her parents and just reflect on the little girl’s brave fight against cancer.
Radio presenter, Sureshnie Rider said, “In my entire career of being a radio presenter, I don’t think I ever prepared myself to do an event like this one.”
The decorations at the event reflected the theme of the Disney Princesses, with the stage transformed into a fairy-tale masterpiece that illustrated Shanaya’s bravery at taking on Ewing’s Sarcoma with a heart-warming smile.
The day was filled with a programme of musical tributes kicked off by Princess Rapunzel and Princess Belle singing a Disney melody while 13 of Shanaya’s aunts dressed like princesses walked in, each carrying the matching Disney doll.
Members of the community and Shanaya the First followers who could not be in attendance, had the opportunity to watch the event as it went live on their Facebook page.
Song and prayer have always been part of Shanaya’s family and that was evident in the proceedings as song and dance were the order of the day.
