Blanket workshop turns into family affair

West Randers learned an important skill at the recent blanket workshop for the Warm a Heart This Winter project which set out to give blankets to many people in need this winter.

Krugersdorp’s very own Miss Mini Teen South Africa winner, Boipelo Tlhabi with help from mom Tidimalo recently held a blanket workshop and collection drive. They hoped to get the community involved to create as many blankets as possible to give to those in need this cold winter.

The Tlhabis have been doing a lot over the last few months to help out the needy, and teamed up with Debbie Swanepoel from DebSwane on Friday, 31 May for this initiative.

Community members from over the West Rand were invited to participate in a class session where they were taught to create beautiful winter blankets. They learned a new skill they could take home with them, with the knowledge that the blankets they’ve created are for a worthy cause as they will be donated as part of the Warm a Heart This Winter initiative.

The morning session was the slowest of the day, and was only really meant to get participants into the groove of the day. By the afternoon and evening sessions, the hall at the Ruimsig Country Club was filled with hardworking women. The material, templates and refreshments were provided and paid for from the proceeds of ticket sales.
