Roodepoort clubs do well at Comrades

The community of Roodepoort should be proud of the athletes from local running clubs area for doing very well and running some impressive times at the Comrades.

 

The 94th edition of the Comrades Marathon that took place on Sunday 9 June saw South Africans Edward Mothibi taking the win and Gerda Steyn breaking the women’s record.

Congratulatory messages continue to pour in for the winners of this year’s marathon.

The community of Roodepoort should be proud of the athletes from local running clubs for doing very well and running some impressive times.

Serge van Hee of Florida Running Club ran an impressive time of 7:16:12, earning himself a Comrades silver medal. Leon du Plessis received a Bill Rowan medal with a time of 8:42:32, together with team-mates Brian Clarke (8:48:56) and Adria Geekie (8:51:42).

Roodepoort Athletics Club had two athletes who did well at the race. Zacharia Motlhabani ran a time of 7:45:44 to earn himself a Bill Rowan medal and Godfrey Mokone ran an impressive time of 7:16:13 to receive a silver medal.

Panorama Runners also had some runners doing well at the Comrades. Warren Knipe did a time of 8:45:43 and Setumo Mohapi ran a time of 8:53:19. Both of these runners received the Bill Rowan medal.

Golden Reef Road Runners are proud of their athlete, Rikus Kranhold, who ran a time of 8:22:32, achieving the Bill Rowan medal for himself on the day.

Sports Minister, Nathi Mthethwa, congratulated the winning pair and all this year’s runners while former Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, shared her good wishes on social media.
