I am writing this letter in reply to Older and Wiser, whose letter was published on page 4 of the 7 June edition of the Roodepoort Record.
Five years ago, when I had to renew my driver’s licence, I was also accosted by a group of young men who are very much in your face. The person charging for photos also demanded an exorbitant price.
I was told that I needed to pay, (I think even five years ago it was R650), but, lucky for me, I clicked that this must be a scam, and advised the person that I only had R400.
He then kindly offered to accompany me to the bank to draw out the balance.
I said no, and was very rudely treated while pulling out of the parking.
Just take a casual drive past there and see how many of these vultures are desperately trying to get you to turn into the parking area.
So another five years have past and nothing has changed.
The poor old security guard there probably fears for his life in the presence of these evil criminals and the Florida police remain useless.
These criminals specifically target pensioners. We are all aware that so many pensioners are struggling due to the sad ongoing corrupt situation in this country.
So much for the promised “New Dawn”.
I, for one, thinks that it is high time that action be taken, and suggest that a surprise police visit be arranged on these evil criminals and that they request identity information from these people and take steps to send them packing!
My driver’s licence is due soon, and I will definitely not go to Florida.
