The RiverWel Residents Association has applauded City Parks for erecting seven new signs along the Klein Juskei River nature trail greenbelt in Weltevreden Park.
A chuffed RA committee member, Neville Burnett, told the Northsider that these signs will allow residents to utilise the greenbelt. “We thank City Parks for taking interest in the project. Residents will now have a keen interest in the area,” he said.
The nature trail can be used for jogging, walks and walking dogs on leashes – among other fun activities.

The signs also vividly promote and warn of the dos and don’ts when accessing the greenbelt.
However, Neville still expressed a concern about vagrants occupying the greenbelt and causing it to be an eyesore. “The big problem is that there are people who sleep and make fires in the greenbelt, which is very dangerous. However, we hope City Parks will maintain the area and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) will enforce the by-laws,” he said.
He also mentioned that the RA has started putting up lights in the greenbelt to reduce darkness at night. He also urged residents to join hands with them in promoting safety in their jurisdiction.
