Ivan Beukes from Florida Swimming Club (FSC) has qualified to participate in the Mare Nostrum Series (MNS), which is hosted in Europe annually.
The MNS attracts most of Europe’s top international competitors.
Ivan will be travelling with our national head coach, Graham Hill, and the high performance manager, Dean Price, as part of the team participating in the events in Monaco and Canet over the next two weeks.
Ivan, who has always been a top performer, has relocated to Johannesburg from Polokwane to be part of the Florida team, and to train in their programme.
The programme offered at Florida is currently developing some of the province’s top age group swimmers.
Ivan’s coach, Tracey Hemphill of Orcas Swimming, an affiliate of Florida Swimming Club said, “I am very excited for Ivan to have this experience. It is his first international tour and he will be travelling with athletes who are at the top of their game. The exposure for Ivan is likely to motivate him and me for the upcoming season. I am particularly excited about his participation in the SA Short Course Championships, which will be hosted in Pietermaritzburg in August.”
