Final countdown to Comrades Marathon

The race is run from “gun to gun”, and plastic bin bags used as body warmers will be strictly prohibited.

All the hard work of training in preparation for the challenge ahead is done, and now it’s the final countdown to the 2019 Comrades Marathon.

Here are a few things athletes and spectators should know about this year’s race:

– It is an up run beginning at the City Hall in Durban and finishing at the Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg.

–The Comrades distance is 86,83km

– The race will be run on Sunday, 9 June starting at 5.30am and finishing at 5.30pm.

– NO spectators will be allowed at the start of the race due to the limitations of crowd control and safety issues.

– The race is run from “gun to gun”.

– Plastic bin bags used as body warmers will be strictly prohibited. This will be enforced by security and referees.

– Wheelchair athletes will start at the front of the race and for the safety of all participants will be set off shortly before the main race.

– Wheelchair athletes are invited to contact the organisers to discuss any specific aspects concerning their participation.

– The Expo Registration Venue will be open on Thursday, 6 June from 10am until 7pm, on Friday, 7 June from 9am to 7pm, and on Saturday, 8 June from 9am to 5pm.
