According to a Facebook post by the SPCA, the family was sleeping on Sunday, 2 June, and at about 4am, another family member tied the Boxer dog’s legs together and cut the animal’s throat.

“No one knows why, or what happened or what possessed the person to do this to an innocent pet. The family arrived at the SPCA in total shock. Unfortunately their beloved family pet had passed away due to blood loss,” read the post.

This is said to be the second incident in just two months.

In another incident, a boerboel was stabbed to death, while another was severely injured by the owner in Ruimsig.

The SPCA is appealing to residents to be on the lookout for animal abusers.

“We need the community’s support to ensure that these criminals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. To ensure a successful prosecution, it takes money for the veterinary and pathologist reports,” concluded the post.

The SPCA has been contacted for comment. Once received, an update will be done.
