Little dancer wants to go to America

A dream come true — Caylin has secured her place in the team to represent South Africa in New York.

Twelve-year-old Caylin Humphreys, a talented young dancer, will soon be dancing in the City that never sleeps (New York) to represent South Africa.

She started Acrobatic and Lyrical Contemporary Dancing at the age of eight, when it was already noticeable that she was gifted with a natural talent.

Caylin has competed in various events in and around the country, working her way up to the nationals at Talent Africa for three consecutive years. She also received Gauteng colours at the Acrobatic Federation of South Africa three years in a row, and qualified to participate in the South Africa Championship during both 2017 and 2018.

She won bronze in Acrobatic Dancing and Lyrical Contemporary in 2017, and silver for both her dance categories in 2018 and 2019. A dream came true when she took home two gold medals at the Talent Africa nationals, with this achievement placing her in the team to represent South Africa in New York from 22 June to 2 July.

Not only is she a talented dancer, but she is also currently the head girl at Laerskool Dr Havinga. She has also been in the Top 10 for academics for the past four years and also participates in sports.

Caylin said she is very happy but also a bit nervous about this opportunity during her interview with Record.

“I am very excited and also scared for this big event, but I believe I will represent South Africa well, hopefully coming back with an award,” Caylin said.

Caylin’s mother, Shantel Humphreys, is filled with love, support and admiration to have her daughter live her dream.

Shantel said, “I have travelled, but I have never been to America. I am super proud of her, she has worked very hard and finally made her dream come true.

“Your consideration to invest financially in this opportunity and dream would be appreciated. A trip of this magnitude has a hefty price tag. Any amount will be appreciated. Supporting documentation can be provided upon request,” said Shantel.
