The suspects are said to have been travelling in a white BMW.
According to a security officer on the scene, the man fell out of the car and called for help. The driver’s window had been shattered by bullets and the rear side of the car.
Netcare 911 paramedics, who airlifted the injured victim, indicated that he sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.
“The patient was assessed on scene by Paramedics and found to have sustained critical injuries requiring Advanced Life support to stabilise him.”
“Due to the seriousness of the man’s injuries the Netcare 2 specialised helicopter ambulance was activated to airlift the seriously injured patient to hospital for further treatment,” a Netcare 911 post read.
A frightened eyewitness, who spoke in condition of anonymity, relived what she encountered while travelling in her car with her two children (six and two years old).
“As I was approaching the hill on Doreen Road something just told me to slow down. Everything happened so quick at about 4:07pm. As we approached the hill, there was a car in front of me and then the Land Rover. The white BMW sped past us in the lane turning right and drove in front of the Land Rover and blocked it off, and at this moment I realised something was not right. My six-year-old and I saw two armed men jumping out of the BMW who started shouting and shooting about six rounds and then the left door of the Land Rover opened,” she explained, adding that everything happened so quickly and all she could think of was the safety of her children.
Mpho concluded that the suspects are still at large.
