Ngwenya artist prepares for huge showcase
He said his services have been acquired by leading companies as well as private collectors.
A local wire and bead artist, Joseph Ketche, is preparing for his second trip to Japan later in the year, where he will be doing what he does best – showcasing his art and networking at the same time.
Joseph is an innovative and environmentally friendly artist who uses recyclable materials and transforms them into beautiful bead and wire works which he sells at Ngwenya Glass Village in Muldersdrift.
According to the artist, he has more than 40 years’ experience in art. He said his services have been acquired by leading companies as well as private collectors.
“For customised products, I’ve done work for the likes of Google South Africa and the DStv head office in Randburg – they wanted artwork for their reception areas,” he smiled.
The Zimbabwean-born said his capabilities include revamping old tins into toy cars and animals and using plastic to make handbags, among many other things.
Speaking about the Japan trip, he said in 2017 he was invited to work throughout Japan and demonstrate his creative skills.
“I will be going back to do what I do best. I will be away from September for about three months,” he said.
When asked about costs of his art, he said every artwork is different. “A piece is charged according to the time taken, material used and artistic ability,” he explained.
While Joseph is still on our shores, his stall can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday weekly between 8.30am and 6pm.
