WATCH: Patrollers unite against crime
The gathering, organised by the Honeydew Community Policing Forum, saw various CPF members from other areas, community patrollers, security companies and City of Johannesburg Emergency Services come to the party.
A huge number of vehicles with red and white flashing lights assembled at sunset on the corner of Christiaan De Wet and Rinyani Roads in Weltevreden Park on 17 May, in a bid to promote visibility.
The gathering, organised by the Honeydew Community Policing Forum, saw various CPF members from other areas, community patrollers, security companies and City of Johannesburg Emergency Services come to the party.

One of the organisers, Jon Rosenberg, the public relations officer for the Honeydew CPF, explained the purpose of the initiative. “Basically, this is a group of CPFs from different precincts as well as patrollers that meet on a monthly basis and conduct mass gatherings. It is a show of visibility, and the collaboration of various groups shows that we work together and that team work is the only way we can resolve crime,” he explained.

When asked if the gatherings help combat crime, Jon responded, “I think it does, in that the public can see that we are working together.”
“What we generally do after the gathering is go on a mass patrol through the area. Thereafter, the participants return to their designated patrol areas,” he explained. He also mentioned that he was impressed with the size of the turnout.
Before the vehicles dispersed back into their areas, the participants congregated for a prayer.
A Beagle Watch Response representative, Lizo Songela, said he hoped that some of the areas they patrol as a company would adopt this initiative. “What we do in this area is very special because everyone is involved in the fight against crime. I hope other areas can learn from this initiative as well,” he urged.
