Youngster excels in equestrian competition
Kerryn Maher, the owner of Glover Paddocks Equestrian Park in Honeydew, where Blessing takes her lessons, said Blessing started riding competitively this year.
Lesego Primary School’s young equestrian, Blessing Gumbo, has proved to be a star jockey in the making in the sport.
The Grade 2 learner achieved outstanding results at the third South African National Equestrian School Association (SANESA) Interschool Gauteng West qualifiers on 11 and 12 May.
The event took place at Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm in the Cradle of Humankind, and saw hundreds of young riders competing for their schools.
Blessing and her Appaloosa pony, Kondos Andraki II, achieved the following results in the Level 0 competition: first in Dressage, first in Performance Riding and fourth in Working Riding.
According to Kerryn Maher, the owner of Glover Paddocks Equestrian Park in Honeydew, where Blessing takes her lessons, Blessing started riding competitively this year.
“Blessing has worked really hard to prepare for this show, and her performance at the show was a direct result of this,” said Kerryn.
“We are hoping to see Blessing win plenty more rosettes this year – and she and Andraki undoubtedly have a bright future together,” she added.
She also indicated that Glover Paddocks is hoping to attract more young riders to ride for their schools, just like Blessing has.
“These young equestrians are the future of the sport and we want to be a part of that exciting future,” Kerryn concluded.
