Western Cubs to participate in prestigious tournament
Wstern Cubs will be holding trials
Western Cubs Junior Rugby Club will once again participate in the prestigious U/13 Rugby Tournament presented by VKB at Hoërskool Wilgerivier in the Free State from 13 to 15 June.
Players are invited to attend the club’s trial matches/ clinics on 19 May (venue per Facebook page @ Nashua Western Cubs Junior Rugby) in order to make the selections for a 22-player squad.
The trials event is open to all players but it should be noted that once selected, the player will have to become an official member of the club in order to participate in the upcoming tournament.
The teams that will be taking part in this year’s tournament are as follows:
• Griffons
• Kosh
• Western Cubs
• Noordwes Platteland
• Vrystaat
• Rooikatte
• Verwes
• Vrystaat Platteland
• Gauteng
There will only be provincial teams participating in the tournament, so the standard of play and presentation promises to be very high.
The Western Cubs have won the tournament twice and are currently the defending champions. The coaching team consists of JG Spies (Gauteng Lions Presidential U/19s) and Ettienne Kok (Gauteng Lions U/13 Sevens).
The club chairman, Juan van der Merwe, said, “More details about the costs and event information will be made available at the trials event”.
