Unbeaten Poorte secures win over stubborn Raiders

Poorte's tries came from Lux Ntsepe as well as four more by a very impressive forward line.

Roodepoort Rugby Club’s players recorded yet another win when they emerged victorious from a tightly contested away league match against Raiders Rugby Club at the Bill Jardine Stadium in Industria on Saturday, 4 May.

The Roodepoort outfit came out in their new white kit to face a very stubborn Raiders side. Both sides quickly registered points on the scoreboard and before the halftime mark, Poorte was trailing by a point with the Raiders leading by 13–12. At halftime, the score was still the same, with Roodepoort realising they’d have to up their game and gain more control in the breakdown.

At the start of the second half, Roodepoort seemed a far better side, with the back line well aligned and showing great hands. The front pack contested the scrums and line outs against a fighting strong Raiders forward line with success in most instances. Roodepoort needed to quickly take control of their nerves and get back in the game if they wanted to add a victory to their campaign.

The unbeaten Poorte managed to pull out a great win at the end of 80 minutes and beat Raiders by 29–39. The last action of the game came from the Raiders with a late try and conversion that went over just in time to make the final score.

The rest of the Roodepoort Rugby Club results on the day were as follows:

– 1st team won 39–29

– 2nd team won 23–7

– 3rd team won 25–5

– U/21 team won 30–5

– U/19 team won 34–3

– Women’s team won 37–0
