An evening dedicated to making a difference

The theme for the evening was ‘Make your Mark’

Meeting number 462 of the West Rand Toastmasters Club was called to order by Lynette Harris, and all members and visitors were welcomed.

The evening’s visitors included two members from the Northriding Toastmasters Club, and Kaameel Chicktay also gave a positive general evaluation of the meeting.

The Toast to Toastmasters International was proposed by Stephanie Watkins, whereafter the evening’s activities commenced.

The theme for the evening was ‘Make your Mark’ and each participate had to talk about how they would like to make heir mark.

Ernest Watkins said he wanted to become a good ambassador for his bowling club or province, Alwyn van Wyngaarden would like to leave behind his perception of life, Stephanie Watkins is aiming to be a better bowls director and Thato Majela and Lynette Harris both want to achieve their Distinguished Toastmaster award. Kaameel remarked that he would like to be remembered as content and happy.

The role of Grammarian was taken on by Alwyn, and he had the chance to choose the word of the evening, which was ‘livingness’.

This was followed by the Impromptu Speeches for the evening, and the Table Topics Master requested random members to speak about some of the Apps they enjoy.

Because of the huge variety of Apps available on phones and computers, the audience was not only entertained, but the session was also very informative.

There were two impromptu speeches, the first being Jeffrey Nkhawazi’s Ice Breaker speech, entitled‘All about Jeffrey’. This was followed by Lynnette’s Ice Breaker speech, entitled ‘Masterpiece’.

The winners for the evening were:

• Best Impromptu Speech – Heather Coakelin

• Best Contributor – Lynnette Harris

The next meeting will be held on 16 May at the Discovery Bowling Club, Lucas Avenue, Discovery. It will start at 6.30pm.
