#IMadeMyMark: Do you know where to vote?

Voting stations open at 7am and close at 9pm and you can vote at any station in South Africa but if you are outside your registered province you will ONLY be issued a national ballot.

It is rather hard to believe that more that 20 years have passed since South Africa had its first fully democratic elections in 1994. As the country heads to the polls in its fifth democratic general elections, it is very important for the eager voters to know what they need and where they can go to vote.

You need your green bar-coded ID book (or your modern ID card) to vote. You cannot use your driver’s licence, student card or any other form of of identification. Voting stations open at 7am and close at 9pm and you can vote at any station in South Africa, but if you are outside your registered province you will ONLY be issued a national ballot. So if you are away on holiday or business, simply find the nearest voting station and go cast your vote.

The only acceptable alternative form of identification is a temporary ID and if you still need to apply for it, all offices of the Department of Home Affairs nationwide will be open from 7am to 9pm on 8 May to issue temporary IDs to voters.
