Charterhouse showjumping star saddles up for provincial competition
Deborah got her first horse at the tender age of 18 months.
Charterhouse School’s Grade 7 learner, Deborah du Toit, not only shines academically, but is also a star atop a horse, as she continues to take on the country’s best showjumpers.
Deborah was fortunate enough to start horse riding and dressage at a very early age, as she received her first horse when she was only a year and a half old. She went on to take part in her first show competition when she was four.
Deborah is lucky to be able to train at Glover Paddocks under the guidance of professional showjumper Tasmin Maher, who has trained a few national champions already.
She might only be in her final year of primary school, but she already has her sights set firmly on the future, as she plans to pursue a degree in Equine Studies, hoping to one day walk in the footsteps of Tasmin, who is her role model over and above being her trainer. Having already earned her Gauteng colours from the South African National Equestrian Schools Association last year, Deborah and her trusty horse Fred most recently took part in the fourth Sanesa eventing qualifier for Gauteng primary school riders on Wednesday, 1 May.
