Local law enforcement agencies and emergency services have managed to rescue one of two dogs this morning, Saturday, 27 April, that were stabbed by their owner on a property in Ruimsig, Roodepoort.
BCI Security, who managed to save one of the injured dogs, was alerted about the incident after 7am, to provide assistance with various emergency service providers and the SPCA.

According to BCI’s operations manager, Rudi Holtzhausen, the owner of the dogs is a mentally unstable man who has been taken to the hospital for a medical check-up after the ordeal.
“At 7.26am this morning we received a report at an address where a mentally disturbed man had stabbed the dogs. BCI responded with various other service providers including ER24 and the SPCA.”
“We entered the property with the police on this huge property and found the man who is maybe in his late 40s or early 50’s. We found the place covered in blood and on the entrance was a Boerboel breed dog already dead,” Holtzhausen described the grim scene.

While inspecting the scene, he added that they found the second dog with stab wounds to the chest. “The dog was bleeding excessively, “he said. “We had to load the dog in one of our K9 bakkies and took him to the Ruimsig vet where a doctor from the vet was on standby waiting for him,” Holtzhausen explained.
He said the dog showed signs of recovery while it was being treated.

He also added that the ex-wife of the man and his step daughter visited the scene. “They were very distraught, the daughter sat next to the deceased dog and started crying while petting it,” he explained.
“The police together with ER24 took the suspect to Helen Joseph Hospital to check if he is mental condition,” he said.
Holtzhausen concluded by speculating that man might be charged for animal abuse.
